Birthday rewards are one of the simplest ways to build a personal connection with customers. They feel thoughtful, relevant, and are easy for merchants to set up. However, until now, birthday points in Flits have been limited to a single rule. Points were issued only on the customer’s exact birthday. If the customer did not visit the store on that specific day, the reward often went unnoticed and unused.

To solve this, Flits has introduced a flexible update to Birthday Points that gives merchants more control over when birthday rewards are issued and how effectively they convert.

What’s New in Birthday Points

With this update, merchants can now issue birthday points before, on, or after a customer’s birthday. The timing can be configured anywhere between 1 and 365 days before or after the birthday.

This means birthday rewards are no longer tied to a single calendar date. Instead, they can be aligned with customer behavior, marketing campaigns, and store activity.

How this Update Improves Engagement

The biggest limitation of the earlier setup was timing. Customers do not always shop on their birthday. Some are busy celebrating, some are offline, and others simply forget to check their rewards.

By issuing points before the birthday, merchants can nudge customers as they plan purchases. This works well for customers who like to browse early or treat themselves ahead of time.

Issuing points after the birthday helps re-engage customers who may have missed the reward on the actual date. It acts as a friendly follow-up and brings them back to the store when they are more relaxed and ready to shop.

This flexibility removes the dependency on one single day and ensures the reward reaches customers when they are more likely to notice and act on it.

Better Timing Without Extra Discounts

Birthday Points, as many researchers suggest, have clear value; issuing them at the right time makes these rewards more likely to be noticed and redeemed.

Better timing increases visibility through notifications, boosts redemption rates, and drives repeat purchases without requiring additional discounts. Birthday points can also be aligned with ongoing promotions like seasonal sales or payday offers.

Simple Setup for Merchants

Setting up birthday points remains simple in the Flits admin. Merchants can choose the points value, select the timing window, and optionally set an expiry. Points are issued automatically to customers who have added their birthday, with notifications sent to keep them informed.

How to Set Up Flexible Birthday Points in Flits Admin

Setting up flexibility birthday points is quick and requires no storefront changes. Open the Flits app from your Shopify admin and go to Loyalty and Rewards under Earning Rules.

Enable Birthday Points and set the number of points you want to reward customers with. Next, choose when the points should be issued. You can choose to issue points:

  • Before the birthday
  • On the birthday
  • After the birthday

Set the number of days between 1 and 365 based on your preferred timing.

Optionally, set an expiry period to encourage faster redemptions. You can also enable loyalty push notifications and emails so customers are informed when points are credited.

Save the settings to activate the feature. Birthday points will be issued automatically every year to customers who have added their birthday before the reward trigger, ensuring a smooth and accurate reward experience.

What Customers See on Your Store

Once the birthdate is added, customers can see birthday points directly within the loyalty widget under “Ways to Earn”.
